Enroll a Camper

hCamp Connect California 2008 is in full planning mode. The planning committee consists of the Camp Director, Camp Coordinator, a large number of returning counselors, additional support from county social service agencies, and new volunteers who are compelled to help retain the connections among foster youth while in care. This year's Camp took place July 30 – August 3, 2007 at Camp Redwood – Sequoia Lake YMCA. Campers ranged in age from 9 to 18 years old and came from all over California.

Potential campers must be in the California Child Welfare System, in foster care or adoption placements and separated from one or more sibling(s); this includes post adoptions that separated siblings. Children placed in public foster or adoptive homes and children placed in families with private agencies are welcome to apply. Social Workers of these children can apply by downloading the Camper’s applications. For potential campers who are not placed in an Aspira foster or fost-adopt home, use the Non-Aspira Camper Application. For those potential campers who are placed in an Aspira foster or fost-adopt home, use the Aspira Camper Application. All applications must be submitted by May 30, 2008.

You will need the (free) Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these PDFs.

Once campers’ applications are received and reviewed, the available slots will be assigned. Social Workers will be contacted regarding the capacity to accommodate the children who have applied. For those children who can be accommodated, information packets will be mailed to both Social Workers for the necessary releases and approvals as well as to Campers with a Camp Connect California Welcome Packet. Campers will convene at Camp Redwood – Lake Sequoia YMCA camp location. Transportation to the camp location will not be provided. Families or social service agencies will need to make the appropriate transportation arrangements to and from the camp location.

Tuition for Camp Connect California is $500 per Camper. Many of our Camper’s tuition is funded through donations and sponsorships. If you would like to sponsor a Camper please click here to donate.

Bringing Siblings Together

Over the years, nearly 300 siblings have participated in Camp:

  • In 2002 there were 70 campers at Wonder Valley Ranch in Sanger, CA
  • In 2003 there were 73 campers at Regional Learning Center in Sonora, CA
  • In 2004 there were 94 campers at Regional Learning Center in Sonora, CA
  • In 2005 there were 59 campers at the YMCA’s Camp Jack Hazard in the Stanislaus National Forest
  • In 2006 there were 59 campers at the YMCA’s Camp Jack Hazard in the Stanislaus National Forest
  • In 2007 there were 50 campers at YMCA’s Camp Redwood in Sequoia National Forest

The various venues allow for changing experiences for returning campers and offers different types of activities for campers and counselors. But one thing remains constant, the focus on supporting and enhancing the sibling relationship... and, of course, a lot of FUN! We are very excited to be attending to Camp Redwood at Sequoia Lake this year.
